Company and product identity
Distalmotion develops Dexter for robotic assistance in laparoscopic surgery. Its official materials identify a Swiss headquarters and a US organization. The US legal page identifies Distalmotion US Inc., a Delaware company with an Ohio address. Buyers should establish the contracting entity and local service provider for their territory rather than assume a single worldwide sales arrangement.
Dexter's operating model
The Dexter product page describes a mobile system and a console within the sterile field. The workflow allows transitions between laparoscopic and robotic steps. The company also positions Dexter around an open architecture. These descriptions support a compatibility discussion; they do not establish that every visualization platform, instrument or operating-room layout will work without validation.
Current US procedure boundaries
On August 13, 2026, Distalmotion announced an additional US clearance for ventral hernia repair. The release lists the Dexter L6 US indication as laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repair, cholecystectomy, total benign hysterectomy including salpingo-oophorectomy, and sacrocolpopexy, in adults aged 22 and older. This is a manufacturer account of defined indications, not permission for all surgical procedures.
European scope is separately described
The same dated announcement describes European use in adult urologic, general and gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. The difference matters when preparing a multinational tender: a procedure described in European material should not automatically enter a US specification. Obtain the current instructions for use and relevant local regulatory documents for the exact system, instruments and intended procedures.
A named adoption example
In its June 24, 2025 announcement, Distalmotion reported that AdventHealth had acquired multiple Dexter systems and completed first cases. The release included a clinician from AdventHealth Celebration. It establishes a named institutional adoption reported by the supplier. It does not identify the current number of systems at every AdventHealth facility or prove results for another hospital.
Integration and evaluation
A hospital evaluation should follow a representative case from equipment positioning to turnover. Document where the console and carts fit, who prepares instruments, how the team switches between operating modes, and which existing equipment remains in use. Ask for a configuration list and a supervised demonstration using the proposed room layout.
Separate technical acceptance from clinical program approval. Training, operating privileges, escalation arrangements and clinical oversight need their own accountable owners. Compare the full service and instrument proposal with the hospital's planned case mix rather than relying on a headline equipment cost.
Commercial contact and regional support
The official contact form asks for professional and institutional information and provides a country field. Specify the purchasing country, proposed procedures, facility type and existing laparoscopic setup. Request the local contracting entity, installation schedule, support hours, training pathway and instrument replenishment arrangements in writing.
