Eelume: S-Series AUVs for Seabed Mapping and Infrastructure Inspection
Norwegian underwater robotics company offering S3 and S6 autonomous vehicles. Compare depth, payload-dependent endurance, survey data and deployment support for infrastructure inspection.
Company and operating focus
Eelume AS is a Norwegian technology company headquartered in Trondheim. Its company page traces its marine cybernetics work to 2015 and describes autonomous systems for demanding underwater operations. The current commercial range is the S-series of All-Terrain autonomous underwater vehicles. This profile focuses on seabed mapping, energy infrastructure and asset-condition inspection.
S3 and S6 configurations
Eelume lists the small S3 with a 300-metre depth rating and a 600-metre option, and the medium S6 with a 600-metre rating. Published S3 endurance reaches up to 11 hours and range up to 62 kilometres, depending on payload. The S6 is described as configurable for multi-day operation. These are configuration-dependent specifications, not simultaneous guarantees for every sensor package and mission.
Imaging and survey payloads
The product page distinguishes multi-aperture sonar on the S3 from synthetic-aperture sonar on the S6, with high-resolution still imaging and optional payloads also described. The relevant purchasing question is the required inspection output: seabed coverage, optical reconstruction, bathymetry or another measurement. Agree the selected sensors and data deliverables before comparing vehicle endurance or quoted survey productivity.
Infrastructure inspection applications
Eelume positions its platform for combining wider-area seabed mapping with closer inspection of subsea infrastructure. Its infrastructure material discusses pipelines, cables and other assets, including repeat inspections and three-dimensional reconstruction. Treat complete-coverage language as a vendor objective. The accepted coverage must be defined against the actual asset geometry, water conditions and the features that operators need to observe.
Navigation partner evidence
Exail announced on 18 April 2024 that Eelume selected its Phins Compact C3 inertial navigation system for the S-series. This is a component-supply relationship between distinct companies. It supports the navigation-system context for that announcement, but does not establish the exact current bill of materials or navigation performance of every S3 and S6 configuration offered later.
Deployment and data workflow
Ask the supplier to describe launch and recovery for the proposed shore, pier or vessel operation, including the personnel and equipment required. Establish how missions are reviewed, how data reaches the asset team and which software licences are included. Agree battery handling, spares, storage and recovery arrangements. Published depth or range figures do not by themselves establish that a particular deployment can be completed with the available support resources.
Questions for a survey trial
Use a representative asset section and agree an independent reference for position and image quality. Check repeatability, incomplete coverage, data gaps and the time required to produce usable inspection outputs. Record payload, current conditions, vehicle settings and any operator intervention with each result. Confirm the acceptance limits and a recovery plan before committing to longer missions, and obtain a configuration-specific quotation rather than relying on a generic product comparison table.
