Company Profile: Dobot Co., Ltd.
Dobot collaborative robots for industrial and compact applications, covering CRA, CR20A and Nova, with dated CRA-IP68 evidence, software compatibility and practical cell procurement questions.
Dobot and collaborative automation requirements
Dobot develops robotic products for manufacturing, commercial applications and education. Its range includes industrial collaborative arms and compact models with different capabilities. This profile focuses on selecting equipment for a defined production or handling task. Research reviewed: 10 September 2026.
State whether the purchase is for an arm and controller, a configured application package or a commissioned cell. Grippers, fixtures, feeders, machine communication, protective equipment and acceptance testing should have named delivery owners. A robot's listed applications do not define the contents of a project quotation.
CRA models and task-specific selection
The current product catalogue separates CRA, CRAF with torque sensing, CRA-IP68 and other robot lines. These labels identify different configurations. Confirm the exact arm designation, controller and installed options instead of transferring one variant's feature to the whole range.
For handling or assembly, provide the component weight, tool weight, center of gravity and required orientation. For welding or finishing, add process loads, dress-pack requirements and peripheral equipment. Review the complete motion inside the intended layout, including fixture clearance and the route used to remove a rejected part.
CR20A for larger loads and working areas
The CR20A product page lists a 20 kg maximum payload and 1,700 mm working radius. It identifies applications including picking, packing, palletizing and welding, and describes PLC communication through Profinet and EtherNet/IP.
Payload includes the tooling and all items carried during motion. Check wrist loading, mounting structure and the effect of a long gripper or offset part. The product page qualifies its laboratory measurements against real applications, so establish achievable output with the actual path, loading sequence and selected protective measures.
Nova compact robots and delivery boundaries
The Nova series lists Nova 2 at 2 kg payload and 625 mm radius, and Nova 5 at 5 kg and 850 mm. These compact models address a different equipment class from the CR20A. The page distinguishes the arm's environmental protection from the controller's rating.
For a small commercial or handling installation, check counter or base rigidity, cable space, spills, cleaning access and where people can reach the equipment. Include the tool and process equipment in the assessment. Compact dimensions or a commercial-use description do not establish that a complete application is ready to operate in every environment.
Dated evidence for CRA-IP68 development
In a 19 February 2025 announcement, Dobot introduced the CRA-IP68 series for demanding environments involving dust, humidity and oil exposure. This documents a named product introduction; it is not a protection claim for standard CRA, Nova or every part of an integrated cell.
Request the current model-specific datasheet, test conditions and cleaning limitations. Specify the actual coolant, chemicals, temperature and exposure duration. Environmental protection and chemical compatibility are separate questions, and the supplied cables, connectors and controller must be included in the review.
DobotStudio Pro and version compatibility
Dobot publishes a compatibility reference for DobotStudio Pro, plugins and controllers. Use it with the documentation for the quoted hardware. Record the engineering software, controller firmware and peripheral plugin versions before creating programs or migrating an existing application.
Agree on editable project files, calibration data, backups and restoration instructions. A software update should be checked against the application and its peripherals before production use. Define who supports an interface problem involving the robot, PLC, gripper or camera, and how the site can recover from a failed grip or interrupted cycle.
Trial scope and procurement questions
Which exact arm, controller and options meet the load, reach and environment?
Can the trial include all key parts, difficult surface conditions and changeovers?
What sustained good-part output and process quality will determine acceptance?
Who supplies and validates the finished cell's protective measures and safety settings?
What tooling, licenses, installation, training and program handover are included?
Which spare parts and service arrangements are confirmed for the installation country?
Assess the task with its gripper, workpiece and neighboring machinery. Collaborative robot functions do not eliminate every trapping or contact hazard, and the acceptable operating mode affects achievable cycle time.
