Training and Handover: The Last Mile of a Robot Project
Who needs to know what, and how to prove they know it.
Three audiences, three curricula
- Operators: start, stop, recover from a jam, recognise an abnormal condition, who to call.
- Maintenance: diagnostics, backup and restore, replacing wear parts, reading the logs.
- Engineers: program structure, calibration, adding a new product variant.
Train on your parts
Generic vendor training teaches the interface. It does not teach how to recover from your feeder jam at 2 a.m. Add a session on your own cell, with your own faults injected deliberately, before handover is signed off.
| Deliverable | Proof | Keeper |
|---|---|---|
| Program and config backup | Copy stored outside the controller | Maintenance |
| As-built drawings | Marked-up set, reflecting reality | Engineering |
| Fault and recovery guide | One page per common fault | Production |
| Safety validation record | Signed checklist | EHS |
Handover is a document, not a meeting
List the deliverables, sign them off one by one. If a document is missing, the project is not finished — that is the point of the list.
