Service Robot Sales Keep Climbing as Consumer Volumes Dominate
Professional and consumer service robots are growing at very different speeds and price points.
Two markets in one report
IFR splits service robots into professional (logistics, medical, agriculture, cleaning, construction) and consumer (vacuum, lawn, education, entertainment). Consumer units are counted in the millions; professional units in the tens of thousands, but professional revenue per unit is orders of magnitude higher.
| Segment | Volume driver | Buying logic |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer | Retail price and brand | Impulse and convenience |
| Professional logistics | Labour cost per pick | Payback within two years |
| Medical and surgical | Clinical outcome | Regulatory clearance first |
| Agriculture | Seasonal labour availability | Robustness in field conditions |
Why the professional side matters more
Professional service robots carry integration, service contracts and software subscriptions, which is where most of the industry's durable margin sits. The consumer side is closer to a hardware retail business with short replacement cycles.
