Editorial Standards and Correction Policy
The rules we apply to sourcing, attribution and updates.
Sourcing rules

Where we disagree with a source
When two credible sources give different figures, we publish the range and explain the difference, for example a definitional change in what is counted. Presenting a single number without its definition is the most common error in industry reporting.
Updates and corrections
- Updates that add information keep the original date and note the addition.
- Corrections that change meaning are labelled and dated.
- Superseded standards references are replaced, with a note on the new edition.
- Articles are never deleted to remove an inconvenient fact.
