The short answer
About 150,000 records sit in the industrial robot category. That means the company name, its primary type field, or the first part of its business scope mentions industrial-robot-related business. It does not mean 150,000 companies manufacture industrial robots.
How the category is assigned
- Check whether the company name contains a specific type keyword.
- Check the primary type field in the source data.
- Check the first 60 characters of the business scope only.
Only the head of the business scope is used. Matching the full text pulls in companies that merely mention robots somewhere near the end, which was the main source of wrong categories before this rule was tightened.
Why sub-categories look small
Parallel-link, SCARA and quadruped categories hold only tens of records. Public sources rarely describe companies at that granularity, so most companies fall back to "industrial robot" or the generic "robot-related".
How to use the number
Treat categories as a filter, not as an industry statistic. For market sizing, use association reports with a stated method. For supplier screening, filter, then verify on the company site.
