Boston Dynamics: Atlas Humanoid for Industrial Work
Boston Dynamics develops mobile robots for industrial and safety applications. Atlas is its electric humanoid platform, with commercial timing and deployment scope subject to direct confirmation.
Company overview
Boston Dynamics develops mobile robots for industrial inspection, warehouse handling and factory work. Its portfolio includes the Spot quadruped, Stretch box-handling system and Atlas humanoid. The company FAQ identifies Waltham, Massachusetts, as its design location and says its robots are made in the United States.
Atlas and industrial applications
Atlas is the fully electric humanoid in this portfolio. In its January 5, 2026 announcement, Boston Dynamics described material handling and order fulfilment as intended industrial uses, with automotive work an initial focus. The manufacturer describes Orbit software as the connection to MES and WMS systems. These are supplier descriptions, not evidence that every application has been validated at a buyer's site.
Commercial availability
The January announcement said all 2026 Atlas deployments were committed, with fleets scheduled for Hyundai and Google DeepMind, and additional customers planned for early 2027. Those statements describe the plan announced at that time, not a current delivery commitment. The official FAQ describes Spot and Stretch as commercially available and Atlas as early in its commercial rollout. The Atlas contact page invites enquiries from selected early adopters.
Published specifications
The manufacturer's sales sheet, dated December 23, 2025 and hosted in its January 2026 document directory, lists:
Height: 1.9 m; robot weight: 90 kg; reach: 2.3 m.
Motion: 56 degrees of freedom.
Load capacity: 50 kg instantaneous, 30 kg sustained and 20 kg one-handed.
Battery life: 4 hours, or 2 hours with heavy lifting; autonomous battery swap: 3 minutes.
Interfaces: barcode and RFID workflows; autonomous, VR-teleoperated and tablet-control modes.
These figures are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee for a particular duty cycle. Request the current specification revision and site-specific safety documentation.
Questions for an international deployment
