Robotiq: Adaptive Grippers, Vacuum Tools and Palletizing Workcells
Robotiq supplies end-of-arm tooling and application workcells for manufacturing. Compare adaptive and vacuum grippers, software compatibility, palletizing scope and documented customer applications before requesting a quotation.
Robotiq and the work around a robot arm
Robotiq supplies components, software and robotic workcells for manufacturers. Its official overview and FAQ cover adaptive and vacuum grippers, sensing, vision, palletizing, machine tending and screwdriving. This profile places Robotiq in the components directory because end-of-arm tools and application integration are central to its offering.
A gripper is one part of a workcell. The proposed solution also needs a compatible robot arm, suitable fixtures, application programming and a defined operating process. A palletizing workcell quotation can have a broader scope than a component purchase, so compare the actual bill of materials and services. Research reviewed: 10 September 2026.
Adaptive grippers and part handling
The adaptive gripper range includes the 2F and Hand-E families. The May 2025 2F product sheet lists adjustable strokes of 85 mm for 2F-85 and 140 mm for 2F-140, adjustable force and speed, and customizable fingertips. It directs buyers to the applicable manual for official specifications.
Supply representative parts with their dimensions, mass, surface condition and allowed contact areas. Check both gripping and placement: a successful pickup may still leave the part in the wrong orientation for a machine or fixture. Confirm the required fingertips and whether testing covers oily, fragile, flexible or irregular parts. The combined mass of tooling and workpiece must be considered with the selected arm.
Vacuum gripping and carton variation
Robotiq's vacuum gripper page presents EPick and PowerPick products, including PowerPick Multi for palletizing applications. EPick is described in the FAQ as operating without an external air supply. Do not transfer that characteristic to another vacuum model without checking its requirements.
The company's suction cup selection guidance provides a starting point for choosing cups. A trial should use actual cartons or parts, including seams, labels, porous surfaces, deformation and changing fill levels. Ask how grip confirmation, leakage, dropped-object detection and release are handled in the offered configuration.
Software compatibility and vision options
Robotiq says compatibility checks should include the robot model, mechanical bolt pattern and communication protocol. Software compatibility must also be checked at version level. Its PolyScope X page, reviewed for this profile, describes beta software for Hand-E, Hand-E C10, 2F-85 and 2F-140, while stating that EPick, PowerPick and other plug-and-play components are not yet supported there.
That limitation concerns the documented PolyScope X offering, not a universal statement that those grippers cannot operate on other controllers. Obtain a written compatibility matrix for the selected robot, controller, software, gripper and plugin before ordering.
The Wrist Camera is a separate vision component for robot applications. Confirm the intended object detection task, lighting, working distance, calibration and supported control software. A camera option does not establish reliable recognition of every part or replace a trial with the actual presentation of parts.
Palletizing workcells and integration scope
The Lean Palletizing page describes PE systems using a pedestal and AX systems with an additional vertical axis. It also presents infeed, vacuum gripping and safety package options. The selected configuration determines reach, layout and the equipment required around the robot.
For a useful fit review, provide box dimensions and mass, pallet size, stacking patterns, target pallet height, line rate and the location of pallet exchange. Include the slowest and most awkward products, rather than only the easiest carton. Confirm who connects the conveyor, supplies utilities, manages rejected boxes and trains operators. Agree responsibility for the complete workcell assessment and commissioning.
Documented customer applications
Robotiq's Cascade Coffee case study describes six palletizing workcells at the Seattle-area coffee business, implemented with partner Olympus Controls. The account reports production and operating results for that customer's circumstances. Olympus Controls is named in this historical case, not represented here as a distributor for every destination.
A company article first published on 29 February 2024 and updated on 12 December 2024 discusses Cascade Coffee and TIDI Products. It says TIDI added further palletizing systems after its initial installation. These are dated supplier-published accounts of use; they do not establish a universal payback period, staffing reduction or throughput guarantee.
Questions for an application trial
Which parts or cartons must be handled, and what variations occur within each product?
Which gripper SKU, fingertips, cups, couplings and cables are included?
Which robot and controller versions have been tested with the proposed plugin?
What happens after a missed grip, misplaced part, blocked conveyor or interrupted cycle?
Can the cell meet the required rate during changes of product and pallet exchange?
Which wear items and spare parts are needed, and who provides local support?
What installation, programming, training and acceptance testing are included?
Who is responsible for updates and revalidation when tooling or products change?
Measure successful transfers, damaged products, interventions, changeover time and sustained output with representative samples. Compare total installed cost and operating effort across the complete proposal. This profile does not supply a price estimate.
