How Robot Safety Standards Are Layered
Standards are layered, and you need the right layer for your role.
The three layers
| Layer | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Type A | Basic concepts and principles for all machinery |
| Type B | Generic safeguards such as interlocks and distances |
| Type C | Requirements for a specific machine category such as industrial robots |
How to apply them
- Start from the robot category standard, then add the system integration standard.
- Apply a generic layer only where the category standard is silent.
- Quote the exact standard number and edition in your documentation.
- Re-check when a revised edition replaces the one you cited.
Standards are revised on their own schedules. Confirm the current edition before relying on a clause.
