Preparing the published article.
Our Editorial Sources and Evidence Levels
We grade what we publish by how directly it can be traced to a primary source.
Evidence levels
| Level | Source type | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| A | Official statistics, standards and government notices | Headline figures and policy statements |
| B | Company disclosures, annual reports and technical documentation | Product and corporate claims |
| C | Industry reports, trade press and analyst commentary | Attributed and treated as indicative |
How this shows in articles
- Headline numbers carry the source and the period they cover.
- Estimates are labelled as estimates, with the method stated where possible.
- Ranges stay as ranges when sources disagree.
- Commentary is separated from reported fact.
Where sources conflict we say so rather than picking the most convenient figure.
