Confidentiality and Data Sharing in Joint Projects
Share what is needed, protect what is not.
Classify before you share
| Class | Examples | Handling |
|---|---|---|
| Public | Brochures, published specifications | Open distribution |
| Internal | Cycle times, yield data, layouts | Named recipients with a register |
| Restricted | Drawings, programs, recipes | Approval and a signed agreement before release |
Working practices
- Log every release and return of restricted material.
- Watermark or serialise electronic files so leaks are traceable.
- Agree what happens at project end: return or certified destruction.
- Remember that confidentiality survives the end of the project.
Confidentiality periods should be stated explicitly. Do not assume the obligation expires with the contract.
