Lockout and Tagout for Robot Maintenance
Controlling energy before work starts is the most basic protection there is.
Energy sources are not only electrical
| Energy | Examples |
|---|---|
| Electrical | Mains supply, servo power and control power |
| Pneumatic and hydraulic | Receiver tanks and accumulator pressure |
| Gravity | Raised arms and unsecured workpieces |
| Mechanical | Springs and components that keep moving |
Execution points
- Isolate, then verify, and release pneumatic and hydraulic pressure to zero.
- One lock per person, with the key held by the person working.
- Support or lower any raised component before entering the area.
- Clear and account for people before power is restored.
A lockout procedure needs the tags and the management process behind it, not just the padlocks.
