AutoStore: Cube Storage Robotics and Warehouse Fulfillment
AutoStore combines grid robots, bins, ports and software for warehouse fulfillment. Review AutoCase, current software, a dated Nowaste deployment and system integration requirements.
AutoStore's role in warehouse fulfillment
AutoStore supplies cube storage automation for warehouses that need to hold inventory densely and bring goods to workstations. Its proposition combines robots, storage infrastructure and software. Buyers should evaluate the complete goods-to-person workflow, including receiving and outbound handling, rather than compare one grid robot with a general-purpose mobile transporter. Start with the official system overview.
Robots, grids, bins and ports work together
The system uses robots travelling across a grid above stacked bins, with ports providing access for picking and replenishment. The controller coordinates movements. These components jointly determine usable inventory capacity and the rate at which goods can reach operators. R5 and R5+ belong to the robot range, with Pro variants addressing different operating requirements; their names do not make every bin and charging configuration interchangeable. Review the robot specifications against the proposed design.
Provide SKU dimensions, loaded weights, packaging and inventory distributions before sizing storage. A count of bins alone cannot establish how many saleable units the warehouse can accommodate.
Case handling and storage options need separate scope
AutoCase adds case induction, storage, retrieval and sequencing. It extends the flow beyond conventional individual-item picking, but case geometry and packaging suitability remain engineering inputs. FlexBins supports different bin heights within one grid, while temperature-specific solutions require their own configuration. AutoStore introduced these offerings in its 22 October 2025 portfolio announcement.
Ask which functions are included in the quotation. Automated bin delivery does not itself mean every individual item is picked by a robotic arm. Human workstations, automated picking equipment and external conveyor links must be specified individually.
Software integration and operational ownership
AutoStore's CubeControl controller manages system execution. On 19 March 2026, the company announced CubeVerse and AutoStore Intelligence, extending software across planning, deployment and operations. Buyers should map these layers to the warehouse management system, inventory records and order priorities.
Define the owner of each interface and the authoritative record for stock. Acceptance should cover duplicate messages, cancelled orders, replenishment shortages, interrupted picking and recovery after a network outage. Confirm software versions, subscriptions, remote access and data retention in the proposed contract.
Nowaste Logistics provides dated deployment evidence
In a 7 September 2026 announcement, AutoStore reported its first AutoCase customer deployment at Nowaste Logistics in Sweden, delivered and integrated by Swisslog. The operation handles seasonal apparel arriving in cartons. AutoCase allows those cases to enter storage directly and later leave as full cases or feed individual order fulfillment.
This named, live application supports the case-handling use case. It does not establish the throughput, cost saving or return on investment of another site. Request a reference with comparable cartons, order mix and receiving peaks, and separate measured outcomes from design targets.
Site assessment and acceptance criteria
A feasibility study should connect the storage layout to dock activity, replenishment, picking labour and dispatch deadlines. Assess floor conditions, building access, maintenance space, fire protection design and the effect of extending the grid later. Include representative slow-moving stock as well as fast movers in simulations.
Test complete orders during concurrent inbound and outbound peaks.
Measure queue time at ports, operator task time and exception recovery.
Agree how planned service, charging and unavailable equipment affect acceptance.
Commercial questions for AutoStore and the integrator
Request an itemized system proposal covering robots, grid, bins, ports, controls, host interfaces, installation and training. Identify who delivers surrounding automation and who owns system performance after handover. Compare service response, spares, software costs and expansion assumptions over the operating period. Published product descriptions are not a site quotation or contractual guarantee.
Use the official AutoStore contact directory to establish the appropriate regional and integration route.
Prepare a warehouse automation enquiry
Share a layout, SKU and order data, operating calendar, growth assumptions and required go-live window. Browse Mobile & Logistics Robotics, Write a Robotics Buyer Brief, or prepare a Robotics RFQ with clear boundaries between storage and the surrounding warehouse.
