Thermal Management in Dense Cells
Heat is what limits continuous duty, not the specification sheet.
Where heat comes from
| Source | Effect |
|---|---|
| Motors and gearboxes | Temperature rise reduces torque and life |
| Cabinet electronics | Derating above the rated ambient |
| Welding and grinding | Process heat adds to the cell load |
| Enclosure design | Small volumes trap heat |
| Ambient conditions | Summer peaks push systems past limits |
Practical measures
- Measure cabinet temperature over a full shift, not at commissioning.
- Plan airflow and filtration for the real dust conditions.
- Check derating curves before assuming the rated payload applies all day.
Thermal performance is site-specific. Validate with measurements under production load.
