Benchmarking Suppliers Before You Bid
Benchmarking is cheaper before the tender than after.
What to compare
| Dimension | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
| Technical capability | Cell designs and process experience |
| Delivery performance | On-time record for comparable projects |
| Service model | Response times, spares holding and coverage |
| Quality process | Inspection, testing and documentation |
| Financial standing | Accounts and bonding capacity |
Getting usable answers
- Ask for two reference contacts and actually call them.
- Request evidence, not assurances.
- Note where suppliers refuse to answer; it is information too.
Benchmarking is due diligence. It reduces risk but does not replace contractual protection.
