Ratings assume a load profile you may not have.
What the terms mean

| Duty cycle | Pattern and share of time under load |
| Continuous rating | Performance the manufacturer guarantees for sustained operation |
| Derating | Reduced capability at high ambient temperature or duty |
| Thermal limit | The point where temperature shortens component life |
Applying them
- Compare your real load profile with the rated profile, not with the peak.
- Allow for warm-up before precision work.
- Review maintenance intervals if you run three shifts.
