Permits to Work in Automated Areas
Permits exist so that two people cannot work at cross purposes.
When a permit is normally required

| Hot work | Fire risk in an area with plastics and dust |
| Height work | Fall risk around gantries and conveyors |
| Confined space | Conveyor pits, tanks and enclosures |
| Energised work | Live testing and fault finding |
| Breaking containment | Hydraulics, pneumatics and coolant |
Making the system work
- One permit issuer, with authority to refuse.
- State clearly what is isolated and who holds the keys.
- Close the permit before restart, not after.
