Programming Terms: Points, Frames and Offsets
Most program confusion is terminology confusion.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |

| Position or point | A stored location in a selected frame |
| Offset | A displacement applied to a stored position |
| Frame reference | Which coordinate system a point belongs to |
| Subroutine | A reusable block of program logic |
| Recovery routine | The steps to return safely after an interruption |
Practical use
- Name points so the frame is obvious from the name.
- Use offsets for variant positions rather than new points.
- Document recovery routines; they are used under pressure.
