Quality Terms: Capability and Tolerance
Process capability tells you whether the cell can hold the tolerance.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |

| Tolerance | Allowed variation in a dimension or property |
| Capability | How well the process fits inside the tolerance |
| Repeatability | Spread of repeated results |
| Measurement uncertainty | Doubt attached to the measurement itself |
| First pass yield | Share of parts right the first time |
Why it matters
- A cell can be repeatable and still be off target.
- Measurement method must be agreed with the customer.
- Capability claims need data from the actual process.
Quality definitions and requirements come from the product specification and the customer agreement.
