Standards for Robot End Effectors
Tooling carries its own safety and interface requirements.
What standards address
| Area | Consideration |
|---|---|
| Mechanical interface | Mounting dimensions and fasteners |
| Grip failure | Behaviour when power or air is lost |
| Electrical interface | Signals and supply for sensors |
| Safety | Risk from the tool itself, not only the arm |
| Marking | Identification and load information |
Practical points
- Tool failure modes must be assessed, including loss of air or power.
- The tool can introduce new hazards not covered by the robot's own assessment.
- Documentation should state the tool's mass and centre of mass.
End effector requirements follow from the risk assessment of the cell. Confirm with a specialist.
